What sort of floor covering are you looking for?

Preferably I would like something resilient, but may have to settle for vinyl of some kind. At present the kitchen has ceramic tiles over concrete, they are much too cold, and also destructive. We have smashed so much valuable glassware and china since we have lived here, and even some of the pots are damaged from falling on the floor.
