Yesterday we heard from Powerco that it would cost $2,500 to supply gas to our home. It didn't take a very long discussion to agree that we would stay with electricity for the kitchen. We will advertise for sale the stove fitted for natural gas that we had purchased. Today we are going in to town to look at ovens and cooktops. I'm leaning towards a ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear that having gas installed is not in your budget. I'd have to pass on an expense like that too.

I have a flat cook top and it is so much easier to clean than the old burners and drip pans. I love it!

I want to paint my downstairs powder room, but lack motivation right now. Maybe this winter - just to stay busy.

I've had a ceramic cooktop for years and love it. Easy to clean and so far it's been very reliable. That's a huge expense for installing gas.
Is this a pleasure trip to Thailand?
It sounds like you'll have plenty to keep you busy. How long will Les be gone?

I need to do a LOT of painting around here but...ugh.
No motivation at all.

We purchased the ceramic cooktop today, as well as the pyrolitic oven. The good news is that the shop gave us a credit on the gas stove we had bought, and will remove it when they deliver the new items. This was an unexpected bonus. The cost of putting a gas line from the street to the front of the house was financial blackmail. We would have had further expense to extend the gas line to the back where the kitchen is located ( ... )

Yay for the new cooktop! And the credit on the stove!
:)
So, getting new dentures where you live is more expensive than a month long trip to Thailand, dentures included? That's insane! I'm so sorry he's been in such pain.

It isn't quite that cheap, but the fare there if you buy in advance would be equal to purchasing one denture here. Once you are there you can live very cheaply. You can stay in a 4* hotel for about A$32 per night, and meals cost very little, depending on where you eat. It can be more fun to live in the cheaper end of town, and you get to know some of the locals, which you wouldn't do if you stay in a place like the Marriott.
