On Thursday it reached 31C which is pretty hot for Hobart. As a result I felt less than well on Friday, but when Nick offered to take me to the supermarket I accepted gratefully. Later in the day he decided to cut down more of the pencil pine in the back yard. It is approximately 90 years old and 60 feet high, so not the easiest job to do, and I'm ( Read more... )

I have to really readjust my thinking when I read your posts. 31ºC in November! Oh yeah...you're in the southern hemisphere.
LOL

Both roses are gorgeous!

What building/wall is that pine leaning against?

That's a wall on the boundary, the next door neighbour has it running right round his property. We think there is an indoor swimming pool on the other side of that section, as there is a roof with pipes all over it. We were concerned that the tree's roots might damage the wall so in the interest of good neighbourly relations we thought it best to remove the tree. Apart from that the tree was taking all the moisture from the lawn.

Not warmth, HEAT! round about 22C is a nice temp. 31 is not.

It is a large garden, more than we need really. We will try and make it pleasant to be in, but not too labour intensive, if possible. Now that the tree is coming down the clothes line can be installed (does a happy dance). We have had to wait for that, as there was no point having a tree fall on it.

It is a large yard. We have 3 houses backing onto the side boundary. When it was for sale it would have been a developer's dream!

Gee I'd really like a big wall like that between my neighbour and I. Lots of privacy you have, your yard looks pretty big too - the yellow rose is gorgeous!.

Yes, I know you would like that wall. It would solve a lot of problems for you. When we moved here the yard was incredibly private, you could have run round naked and not have been overlooked. The yard is very deep, the back yards of 3 houses adjoin it on one side; the other side boundary adjoins the wall and that yard is as deep as ours. I agree, the yellow rose is gorgeous.
