What is it with people who say they will get back to you with a quote, and then don't? I rang two places to get quotes for cleaning this place after I move out; one place said they would ring me back with a quote, while the other gave me an on-the-spot quote. The first place never did ring me back, so needles to say I accepted the other.
Your flowering currant is lovely. I know that is one plant I've never seen in real life. I hate buying furniture these days. Nothing is built sturdy enough any more. :)
Flowering currant would grow in your climate. I would imagine that it came from England originally, as you see huge trees of it in the small towns that were built during the first occupation of Tasmania. Homesick migrants brought many things, flora and fauna, which were unsuitable, flowering currant not being one of them However, we are infested with Scotch thistles and gorse brought from the old country, and rabbits were also a problem, as are now foxes.
We have red foxes here too, but I haven't seen any of them this year and the rabbits are overpopulated now. I have never seen gorse, but we do have thistle. I will look into the flowering currant and see if it will tolerate clay soil. :)
I love the view from your window. Such pretty flowers. Too bad flowers don't last forever. :(
The new floor sounds nice. We have wood laminate floors throughout our first floor (to include the kitchen) and they have radiant heat beneath them. It's nice and warm on the feet on cold winter mornings. I like that.
Yay for a new friend. I love meeting new people. :)
I prefer timber floors, but the kitchen floor is cement. However, the vinyl we selected looks like timber. The thought of radiant heat under the floor sounds really decadent, but lovely. However, in Alaska you would really need it.
You can buy the radiant heat "tubing" in home improvement stores here. They lay them down in the leveling compound that most people install under their floors. Of course, you need to hook them into the plumbing system, as warm water circulates through them. They're a pretty big seller here - especially in bathrooms.
what a pretty tree :-) we have a funny old peach starting to blossom, it's a cheerful sight to see some colour in the garden again. i see you have been busy as ever on the homefront! we've found scant spare time to do anything here lately. hooray for new friendship! i hope it blossoms as beautifully as your currant tree.
That's a gorgeous tree, wonderful to see that out your kitchen window ~ so cheerful. You are as busy as ever..puts me to shame with my repairs to the house at a standstill (yes roof still leaks from months ago). Thanks for dropping by my LJ and your comments, I'm not caught up on anything lately including email etc. & apologies. xxxx
The reason we are busy is that we are trying to make this derelict house into a pleasant place to live, and the floor we are replacing next is riddled with borer, and we want to fix it before it caves in under under our feet. Even Les has finally admitted that perhaps we made a mistake taking this on, since we left a comfortable home and beautiful garden, and all we have gained is proximity to a shopping centre, and the bus service is more frequent.
Sorry that your roof still leaks. It was the roof leaking here, probably for years, which has caused the floor to be in such poor condition.
