Last Saturday was 15C so I was able to get out into the garden and weed one rose bed, then spread sheep manure around all the roses. Since then it has rained, gently but steadily at first, then heavily, but now after 5 days it is clearing, thank goodness. The ground is so saturated that there is at least 1 inch of water sitting on top, as the ( Read more... )

Yes, Smokey is one handsome cat and wonderful company. Hr is becoming a handful lately, though. If he doesn't get my attention quickly enough to please him he grabs my clothing between his teeth and pulls, HARD. I have to wonder how long some of it will cope with this treatment, as I try to keep the newer stuff for when I go out. Haven't done any sewing for a long time but hope I will be able to once the kitchen is finished and I have a table in a good light, where I can work without eye strain.

Sounds like he is very particular about getting his Mum's attention. Funny how they manage to learn all sorts of tricks (mine is very good at kissing, and rather too good at opening the kitchen cupboards).

A raised veggie garden! That is mighty neat.
Hope you get to raise lots of veggies in it.

We have great plans for that contained garden, but first it has to be filled with soil and compost.

Hello! I came across your LJ and am adding you to my friend's list. Hope you will add me also. We seem to have so much in common. I've only read a few of your posts, but I'm thrilled to have found you. I'll be 70 in about six months, love gardening, use astrology as a personal guide ( but am not an astrologer ie: casting charts and advising people). We put in two of the same type of containers for our veggies this year, for the same reason. I'll put pics in my LJ soon. Just this afternoon I was out weeding some badly overgrown flower/berry beds. It's so restful and satisfying to me to weed, trim, etc. I am still working, and have an old German Shepherd dog ("wolf" as Rodluvan calls him),but other than that, we are very similar in our life styles and thinking. So happy to meet you!

I've just added you to my friends list. I agree, we have a lot in common. I'm already 70, April 7 this year. Unlike you I'm happy to be not working, except at home - plenty to keep me busy here, I never keep up with it. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.
