On Friday afternoon I went to town, spent some peaceful time looking at seedlings in the garden dept. of K&D, then on to Chemist Warehouse for anithistamines, then checked out the Spotlight sale, and finally went to Dick Smith and now have Airport Express to be installed. I reached the bus mall just in time to see my bus taking off so went to the ( Read more... )

You can see flowers on my LJ page, once they start to bloom. These are all I have at present. I've just been reading your post. Spring/Summer must be so short for you, making it all the more to be treasured.

We still live in a cold climate, although not as severe as yours. Mostly it has been about 10C maximum, with occasionally a warmer day with promise of things to come.

I loved the pics of the wildflowers.

I love the colours of your tulips!
And it's good to hear that the vitamin D is already making a difference for Les.

The tulips are pretty. I'm enjoying them very much. It's nice to have a patch of colour near the front door.

As for vit. D, Les was bright yesterday, and relapsed to pain, etc. today. I'm stoill hoping it will work long term though.

Wow, thankyou! So varied in colour. Did you plant them? I got the idea you moved into that place recently so were they there before?

Did you find anything nice at the Spotlight sale?

Glad to hear Les is feeling a bit better. Chronic pain is awful.

I planted the bulbs. We moved 3 1/2 years ago, but for a while were focussed on making part of the house habitable. The house was derelict when we moved in. We now have a new kitchen, probably the most significant improvement, but have also renovated the bedroom, main living room and my study. Also, we have skylights in the back hall, formerly the back verandah of the original house, which had been built on to. It was formerly like the black hole of Calcutta. Also replaced the toilet, and had the drains replaced, as well as rewiring prior to moving in ( ... )

Mum had skylights put in a few years ago, two in the living/dining room which were fairly dark, and one in the bathroom, as it had no window or natural light. They make such a big difference, so nice to live with.

Is Ivy a termite issue in Tasmania? I know on the mainland where it is cool enough to grow, they have to make sure it doesn't grow over houses as it is a free and easy route for the termites to get in completely unnoticed.

I have had a lot of chronic pain too, and it is very hard. I saw the pain clinic about a year ago and what I learnt there has helped manage it but ugh ugh ugh anyway!

I don't even know if we have termites in Tasmania. Possibly not. As I have seen many houses here with ivy growing over them, I'm assuming not. does that answer your question?

Thanks for the tulip picture. So pretty, especially the pink ones! LOL. I've ordered some tulips that look like ice cream cones. White "ice cream" with a green and red "cone". It will be interesting to see them. Can't wait to see your roses, and the before and after pictures.

"My neighbour Audrey was also on the bus; she is a nice person but I have absolutely nothing in common with her. I managed to make small talk until I got home."

I usually feel uncomfortable when I see neighbours on the bus, because unless they're natural talkers, it's hard to sit there and be chatty when they're only neighbours, not really friends.

Oh! Believe me, Audrey is chatty. That's why it is possible to make small talk with her. I made the mistake recently of expressing my opinion that the 'woman' who has moved in with a neighbour was actually a man, as his/her hands were far too large to be female. This was obviously an interesting idea that had not occurred to her. Wish I had kept my mouth shut, as I would hate for her to express this opinion to anyone else, even though I am pretty sure I am correct in my assumption. The neighbour in question is obviously gay, and it matters not to me if his friend is trans gender or not.
