Yesterday the temperature reached 33C, so I tried to stay inside, only venturing out in the late afternoon to water the garden. It had started to cool down a bit by then

Being good with indoor plants would probably be more helpful in your climate, and they make such a difference to the interior of a home. I used to have lots, but I seem to have lost the knack with them.
From 33 down to 13 is an incredible temperature difference. I LOVE the colours of all your roses. Just Joey is my favourite shade of peachy-orange. Wonderful, all of them!
You live in a crazy climate. At least here we can depend on it being stinking hot every single day except for a few months when it is freezing every single day.
We LOVE those roses :-) we especially like the dark pink one you don't know the name of as it is so elegently simple. Nah, take that back. We especially like them all for different reasons!
I like the fact that you can rely on it mostly being cooler here. I couldn't cope with Darwin. My brother and his wife used to live there, and they wanted me to come and visit. They thought I could come home from Thailand and stop over. There were 2 reasons I didn't want to; firstly, it would have meant travelling Qantas, and secondly after enduring hot temps in Thailand for 4 weeks I was not keen on visiting another stinking hot place on the way home. Strangely Hobart always turned on a hot weather event for my arrival home, when I was longing to be cold, hoping for 18 rather than 30. A lot of people retire here from other states because they can't take the hot weather any more.

Hehe :-)
Yup I think I am going to retire to Hobart too! For the same reason.
I think often we are hotter than Thailand anyway. So I think it was a good call. You really need to come in the dry, in a good year when it is quite cold. Granny came and visited once and swore "Never Again!!!"
A few years after that they went around Ayers Rock but declined to come the extra 1 1/2 hour plane trip here. I was so miffed!
I like the shape fo the pink rose too. I used to have a similar one in a different colour in my last garden as well. The shape reminds me of a ballerina's skirt.

Just Joey is one of my favourites also. I am getting so much pleasure from the garden this summer. It has been too long between roses.
