Tommorrow is my last day in santa barbara, and I am quite ready for it to be. I've had wonderful times here, and my character is probably irreversably etched by this town and my experiences in this town, but it's not home anymore. The people and institutions that defined me for the past few years are still here, mostly, but they've changed and ( Read more... )

I know. Like, so much has been building up to this for so many years, but it just feels totally different than I ever expected it to. Part of me still feels like I should have just stayed here and kept my life, especially since some of my time here has just been so good, but I think I need to start fresh. I think I'm learning that I'd never make much of a third world activist or whatever; I like putting down roots too much. I'm going to really miss you, Phoebe, maybe even more than I do now.

Geoff, first of all, you're absolutely right that this year is your chance to be a role model, and that's going to be a really cool, somwhat strange role reversal. Second of all, I'm really flattered. Third of all, email me any time; I'd like to hear from you. jorgenharris@uchicagol.edu

Guess what? I just bought a PSAT prep book. *scary music plays*

The next decision: should I just go with a fat SAT prep/review/practice book, or make the leap to Kaplan's SAT 2400 book, which is extremely strategy-oriented? I'm a bit afraid to since I read through the first few pages and it's basically aimed at students literally seeking a perfect score. But the fact that it made real SAT experts say, "I thought I was the only person who knew this," is irresistable...how did you prep for the SAT? (I've already ruled out taking an exorbitantly high-priced class...even the online courses seem pretty unreasonable when one can get the same thing in a book for $20-35, and less on Amazon.)

By the way, is that an extraneous "l" or is that your actual email address?

extraneous l. Just get a good book and read it, or don't study; be confident and take practice tests, mostly.
