Paying the Price for My Writer's Block

Yeah, that would be you guys.

Sorry, but I just can't seem to get a good, long story out of myself right now.

I can't even get a good, short story out of myself, but I'm tired of moaning about it and made myself finishing something. Now I'm making you read it. Or at the very least, look at the link to it ( Read more... )

Ohhh, this is lovely. Just lovely. viola69 February 1 2004, 10:51:55 UTC
I love the way you use the outsider pov to set-up than knock-down an intial impression of Brian/Justin; here Mikey jumping to the assumption of what Brian is referring with the comment "I just don't get what you see in him." and Mikey's other assumption that Justin has an easy-everything-is-handed-to-him life.
Fabulous conversation- dialogue flows and slowly reveals more & more about the truth of Brian/Justin's life together- both the mundaneness of finances and health insurance along with the drama of evil Father's and the compromises of job & school in order to take care of those mundane-necessities.
And I just LOVE how your Brian & Justin really TALK. :-)

So glad you liked it!

These Domesticity fics don't really resolve anything, so I'm never quite sure if anyone's going to get much out of them.

They really are just a glimpse into a moment of their lives. Sometimes, I like that easy, drop-by kind of a visit with the guys!

Might not have 'resolved' anything; but showed a glimpse of how it is they interact and the love that is there- that makes resolving & dealing possible. In the badkground you've got Craig callously having dropped Justin from his insurance coverage, Justin having medical problems that mandate money &/or insurance coverage, Brian getting a new business off the ground and Justin dropping out of school to take a less than ideal job to get insurance- and all that drama has been (at least semi) resolved- and here we just get a glimpse of the normal every day dealing in the aftermath of that resolving and before the next crisis needs resolving.
All of that is why I love your Domesticity fics. :-)

But it is exactly these little domestic scenes that make these two so much more real and believable, and to me much more interesting. Especially viewed in contrast to Brian Kinney's on screen persona and in fact much of the show, which I find to be way too over the top. I can more easily relate to having to stay in a deadend job because you can't afford to give up the medical insurance than the heroic bringing down of a scumbag politician.

Michael snickered and suddenly had the image of wheeling around a hundred year old Brian who kept looking over his shoulder saying, "Is that kid still followin' me?"

Heehee. Because Justin could be like, 88, and Brian would still think of him as a kid.

Anyone else watch Spongebob Squarepants?

Brian and Justin are the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy of the future!

Myrna, this is me. Josselin? And you're asking me if I've ever watched a television show?

Ha. I laugh at your ignorance. I laugh at my own ignorance. Ha. Ha. Haha.

I know, I know!

I started to explain the reference, but the show's called Spongebob Squarepants and two of the characters in it are named Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. It just seemed ridiculous after awhile.

Not like Queer as Folk which is all, you know, deep and dramatic and stuff.

Hey there,

Long-time lurker of your work here. I re-read 1-3 before this just to get me in the flow.

This was fantastic. Must be the best B/J conversation I've ever read. I swear it's like you've implanted two more grown-up, reasonable, and wittier(!) brains in their heads.

Loved the stalker POV, especially this: He flushed, oddly embarrassed by the warmth of Brian's affectionate smile.
Since Brian knew all along that Mikey was watching, it's all the more validating that he didn't conceal any of it.

::beautiful::

I swear, all I want from CowLip is for Brian and Justin to talk to one another in such a way so that I understand what's being said and what it means. All these lifted eyebrows and pursed lips, anguished looks and hearty sighs just aren't clear enough for poor, dumb me!

S-P-E-L-L I-T O-U-T!!

Glad you enjoyed the piece! Thanks for your kind comments!

You're welcome. Thank *you* for this really great read.

That'd be a dream. I have a lot of faith in these two, and most of the time I can easily accept (and - more often than not - rely on LOL) glass-half-full analyses to keep me sane. Especially around 312, where I was starting to get desperate for some affirmation to indicate that this time things *are* different. But before I hear/see some clear and obvious demonstration I wouldn't feel validated. Amazingly enough, the "non-defined, non-conventional" line sorta did it for me...

For a long time the only fandom I was interested in was buffy/angel, I came across your tumor justin fic through a friends journal and even though I had never seen any of the QAF USA I got completely trapped by your writing.I had to go and get me the three seasons downloaded and god thank you for that! Then there came Blind Justin and I fell even deeper. I adore this new piece, you have a lovely style of narrating through the eyes of a peripheral character that is reminiscent of Renaissance painters. It is more than a gift, for you have taken raw talent and honed it with technique. I get a buzz every time a new section appears on my LJ. Thank you lass.

Thank you

Oh, wow, thank you! What a nice comment!

Although maybe I should apologize for leading you down the QAF path!

I'm so glad you enjoy the fic! Thanks for letting me know!
