The Year-End Meme

Dec 23, 2003 23:39

I said I don't make new year's resolutions, but doing this meme made me think about what I want to do and not do in the coming year so it's almost like it was all one giant trick!

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?

I'm not embarrassed to say what I did, but I am embarrassed that I never did it before this year, so I'm not saying.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn't make any and no.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No, they were all in hospital delivery rooms.

Ba dum dum! Thank you ladies and gentlemen. I'll be here all week.

No one I'm particularly close to gave birth this year. I bought...mmm, three new baby gifts this year.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

None outside of the good old USA.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?

Determination and self-discipline. I have some, I just want more.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

There's not one. I'm terrible with dates. There's another Henny Youngman joke in there somewhere, but without a rimshot sound byte, what's the point?

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

a) stopped holding fast to opinions that had not been tested by my own personal experience
b) in keeping with a) above, embraced the thong as a necessary fashion accessory

9. What was your biggest failure?

Indecision and mediocrity.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Tickets to see Bruce Springsteen in the pit in Detroit. Awesome.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Former President Jimmy Carter is a consistent example of honor, integrity and grace.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Everyone in or associated with the Republican White House.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Shoes and clothes. And clothes. And boots. And clothes.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Shoes and clothes. And clothes. And boots. And clothes.

And seeing Bruce Springsteen in concert.

And paying off my car.

And dating. Hee hee. I'm 12.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?

Bruce Springsteen is the Rock and Roll Messiah. So any Bruce song will remind me of 2003.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?
Happier

ii. thinner or fatter?
Same. I monitor closely!

iii. richer or poorer?

Sitting around

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?

No, but some lusty urges were felt in my nether regions.

I don't think I had any. That I'm not entirely sure is a little sad and says as much about me as all of the answers to this meme taken together.

No one who reads my journal will believe me if I say Queer as Folk, but it was!

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.

26. What was the best book you read?

A Midwife's Tale : The Life of Martha Ballard, Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812. You will never spend another second wallowing in self-pity or belly-aching about how hard your life is after reading this!

Johnny Cash--I guess you'd call him a re-discovery.

I do not want what I haven't got.

The only new films I saw this year were Finding Nemo (which was grand), Elf (which was good) and a French film set in Spain called L'Auberge Espagnol (which was mildly entertaining). My favorite movie remains "Desk Set," starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was 37 and had a birthday party with pizza and cake and balloons. Most attendees were under the age of seven, so it was really fun.
