I'm always a bit wary with street folk, but will give to charities. Once in a while I will give spare pocket change to someone who strikes me as particularly needy, but it is definitely up to each individual as to what they feel comfortable doing.
Very well thought out, and I definitely agree with the Golden Rule.
Thank you. I agree. It is an individual decision and even for myself, I can't predict from one time to another what I will do. It does depend on the particular circumstance and moment.
It was important to me to help out another human being without any judgment as to how he might use it. <333
Honestly people who jump to conclusions about homelessness, stating things like 'he is probably an alcoholic!', 'he has no ambition obviously!' etc really just piss me off tbh :/
Me, too. And particularly because I was working on the addiction treatment unit at that time so I felt that several of those people were being way too judgmental.
Just happened: I went to the eye doctor's this morning and there was a fellow at traffic light on the way. His sign said homeless and veteran. I don't know the truth. It really didn't matter to me. I rolled down my window and thanked him for his service and gave him a dollar. He had a huge smile and said "God bless you, sister. God bless!"
It's always such a thorny area. Panhandling is really rampant in California, partly because the milder climate attracts homeless people from other states.
I probably would have been tempted to buy him a cup of coffee, instead!
But each of us should do what seems right to us, and you clearly mad the right choice for you. I love you all the more for it!
Thank you so much. Our major city also has had an influx of needy people over the years because there have been a lot of resources to provide food/shelter/housing etc. but state budget cuts are threatening a lot of the programs now. There are no easy answers.
