3. You die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
-The Dark Knight
Raven is tired of this endless game of chess.
The people may change but the basic strategies never do. There are always those who fall into the parts of kings, of pawns, rooks, bishops, knight and inevitably the queens. The faces change but the movements are the same.
The predictability of the situation almost causes her to falter in how she plays. Almost.
There is always something to remind her that people can surprise you. That humans, for their lack of brain power, can fumble with a gun and cause a riot. They may not be the most savvy of creatures but their stupidity sets off enough ripples to make them dangerous.
She plays her part and knocks down the pawns with a fire and brimstone--wouldn't Kurt be proud? No, probably not. But the looks on their faces are enough for her to garner some enjoyment from the ruse.
Her fingers dial Rogue's number before she realizes what she is doing but it feels right. Of course she wants her baby girl to know what she's done. After all, it's for her and the child growing inside of her that Raven has paid any attention to this travesty that is a Proposition.
Pull the chords and the puppets fall into place, dancing to the song you carefully orchestrate.
She knows that is all this law business was. It would never pass. But putting it on the ballot was enough to rile people into action. Enough to start the dance.
It's one she's seen too often through the years. And one she knows will destroy whoever is involved.
She's not about to allow her daughter to be caught up in the mess.
So she plays her own hand and causes her own bit of chaos because that is how the game is played.
Maybe one day the others will understand.
She doubts it.
