Your piece is so loving, so poignant, that one such as I found it terribly hard to read. A decadent and complacent civilization will of course try to swallow up the light. And what a light it was.
I'm trying to work out who your narrator is. I have some ideas, but I'm still not sure.
It's a great idea to use a journal like this for writing exercises - it's not only fun to write, but very enjoyable to read. I love your alphabet idea. Please keep it going!

And the narrator was the main reason this never progressed past the initial idea - originally intended to be an OC, a roughed out idea was of someone spying for Palpatine who changes sides as they grow to know Anakin. I couldn't quite get her/him/it to 'gel' ( at one stage I even toyed with it being a droid - after all, R2D2 displays attachment!) Resurrecting it now, I kept the idea of a first person narrator but left the identity as reader's choice.
The original idea sparked in those first few days after seeing ROTS - when I so wanted to know Anakin's TRUE story :P
And I do intend to try to get through the alphabet - though I'm not sure just how quickly :)

And speaking of the alphabet - it's about going there. Not about how quickly. I'll look forward to whatever you come up with!
