Some parents just deserve a stake in the heart

Is it just me, or is the name "Renesmee"--the name of the vampire baby in Twilight--one of the most hideous names ever bestowed on a baby girl? I think it's supposed to be a mash-up of Renee and Esme, but I can't seem to pronounce it any way other than "Renee-Smee", calling to mind images of a fat pirate in a striped shirt.

Apparently that kind of mash-up name is extremely common in Utah, which is, of course, Meyers' home state.

Yet another thing to "thank" Utah for mysid June 14 2012, 14:03:50 UTC
I'm all for naming after relatives (which the article says is the common source of the names to "mash"), and many mash-ups may actually be OK*. But anything with "Smee" in it...uh, no.

*It's been done for generations; Annmarie, Marybeth, Georgianna, Leanne, etc.

omg, is that really what happens when Bella has a baby? Is it in the books or the movie or both? Horrible. I laughed at your reason for why guys should hate Twilight. I'm afraid I couldn't get past the first page of the book when a friend raved about it and said I MUST read it. So, I'm culturally out of it, I guess.

It's in the book; I have no idea about the movie. I skimmed a couple of the books because my neighbor had loaned them to my teenage daughter. I couldn't stand them; thankfully, neither could my daughter.

PS- They aren't my reasons for why guys should hate Twilight, they're Anita Sarkeesian's. But I agree with her about Edward 100%.

Anita Sarkeesian's video blog series, "Tropes vs. Women" has recently come under attack for daring to take on the misogyny rampant in video gaming culture.
