I like my movies with popcorn; hold the nut bar.

With all the talk in the media lately about a certain actor who shall remain nameless [*cough-TomCruise-cough*], his controlling behavior toward his soon-to-be-ex-beard-wife, and his whack-job religious beliefs, I reflected on the fact that I've had zero interest in watching any of his movies in a very long time. (I would however, probably watch ( Read more... )

Your question reminds me of the near life long friendship of Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart. The former ultra liberal, the latter ultra conservative. Around the same time Henry's daughter was befriending the enemy in Hanoi, Stewart's son was killed in Vietnam remained friends by never speeking of anything remotely related to politics.

I don't know anything about Jon Voight, that would put him on this list. Then in terms of boycott, it's hard to say what I would "boycott" since I rarely watch movies anyway. I quess that Mel Gibson I would boycott because he is so hateful. Kurt Cameron's movies are about his beliefs, which I have no interest in anyway so I would not see them even without thinking about how hateful his message is. I don't see where Tom Cruise or John Travolta are hurting anyone. But I have seen a movie either of them has bee in for twenty years.

Well, yes. I'd still watch their movies.
A) because as long as the movie doesn't offend me I'm good.
B) I like those sorts of movies, I don't care who made them.
C) It's America, people don't like my religion and like to tell me that I'm racist or bigoted. as if I care. Still. I don't care what they do in their personal lives because that's boring.

I don't know what that makes me, but whatever.

I refuse to watch any movie starring Mel Gibson. Or Charlie Sheen. I refuse to watch anything directed by M. Night Shyamalan after the whole "The Last Airbender" fiasco. There are probably some others, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. (I've never watched anything with Kirk Cameron.) They've said and/or done gross things, so it's hard for me to look at them without disgust, and I don't want to do anything that sends more money their way.

Michael Fassbender's another one. After learning he allegedly beat his ex-wife, I have no desire to pay to see him in anything. (I do own and like "X-Men: First Class" and "Jane Eyre" and I can still watch and enjoy them, but I don't want to give him any more money.)

I don't pay much attention to celebrity gossip, but when I do learn something gross about someone, I'd say it influences whether or not I pay to see them perform in the future.
