I sew stupid

I sew, I quilt . , but not like this and I need help with a really stupid thing.   I have a suit, it needs to be hemmed.  I tried to hem in with a strait stretch stitch in a matching fabric.  I didn't like it and pulled it out.  the fabric is a stretch very soft hand poly suiting.  It is a very subtle tapestry looking weave . Do I go for the
