I do know this feeling. Here's my suggestion: transfer out as soon as you can. Find a different school that fits your needs and that will back you up when you tell them working in that orphanage is a better use of your time, and who will even help you figure out how to go back there and get credit for it. Look into The Evergreen State College. It may not wow you at first glance, but get in touch with an advisor, tell them what you're currently hating about where you are, and what you want to be doing, and listen to everything they're willing to help you do. It's a pretty amazing school. Don't give up on school all together, you'll find somewhere for you. Good Luck!

I actually already transfered which is most of the reason I am having so many problems. I started out at a small school called guilford college in greensboro, NC and It's supposed to be a lot like evergreen. I didn't like it though, hated it infact and felt trapped so I took a year off to travel and ended up transfering to the university of oregon where I am now. all of my credits transfered but not as what they were supposed to be (evergreen wouldnt even take half of my credits so it wasnt worth transfering there plus the whole anti grade thing and going to graduate/ med school) so I have to take chemistry again and I'm in a spanish class that is too easy but at the same time It's a second year class and I've never taken college spanish so they wouldn't let me in a more advanced class ( ... )

Hey again,
I got your message. I'm sorry that college has been such a hassle for you. I know guilford pretty well, and as far as I can tell it's not much like Evergreen at all. It's really too bad about the credits not transfering to Evergreen. I know what you mean about not being into the whole "college lifestyle". I too took a year off and I feel like I got most of my need for drunken parties and such out of my system. Now I'm here at school for school, not for parties. I realize this will limit my friendships, and some people will think I'm wierd, but I know what I'm here for and where I want to go from here and I refuse to end up getting pulled away from that and achieving less then I'm capable of. I spent most of high school just skating by and now I'm ready to do what I want to do and be focused. I hope things get better for you. And you know what, I'm all for the peace-corp or peruvian orphanages. That's damn important work you'd be doing. Follow what makes you happy. Good luck!
