We’re sorry if you feel that the ruling seems arbitrary. It was not, however, arbitrarily made. We put a good deal of thought into it. It was, in fact, Homestuck characters (as well as others) that we had in mind when we made the rule against MS Paint Adventures. We do not feel that these characters would be appropriate to the atmosphere that this game is trying to create.

However “dark” you see Homestuck’s comedy as being, we feel that the meme-inspired/inspiring dynamics which accompany characters from the fandom would be not be appropriate a 1920s cosmic horror setting that aspires to a high degree of historical realism and verisimilitude. Furthermore, the tone and treatment of the horrific in Homestuck (which flits between horror elements and hyperbolic absurdities in an endless series of whiplash juxtapositions that function to undermine the seriousness and weight of the horrific itself) would be antithetical to the kind of atmosphere we are trying to create here ( ... )

Thank you very much for this detailed response! While the banning of Homestuck characters doesn't affect me directly (since I don't play from the series) it's very nice to see a well thought-out explanation for keeping them out of the game.
