[†] → Telephone: ALL

Nov 08, 2011 14:38

[It's been a while since Allen used the phone, in fact this may be the first time he's gotten around to making a call himself, but it seems an apt enough time and an apt enough reason. He clears his throat briefly and then speaks in his soft, somewhat tentative English accent.]Professor Watney has offered to go with me to the local police station ( Read more... )

Ah, if you don't mind I'd like to go to the station too. I wanted to see if I could get a possible look at the skeleton they found.

I don't think there would be a problem with that at all, perhaps it'll kill two birds with one stone.

You're going with the group that headed to the mansion ruins later too, is that right?

A-ah, I might. But I really just want to take a look at what the police had found before I go off on my own investigations.

Hm... That makes sense. It'll be good to bring back some information from the local authorities on the matter. ...Assuming that they'll talk to us about it, that is.

I haven't had any experience with the police here before, so I don't really know what to expect of them yet; have you?

[ missing people. it didn't take long at all.

giovanni leans forward, bracing his elbow onto his knees, his smile faint but curious. the other holds the phone to his ear, and he looks across the room through his glasses. ]

... That's a lot of people for our hosts to lose, isn't it. Did they all go at once? [ though he only recognises captain becker from amongst them, is it worth considering it a threat...? ] ... Maybe the ones responsible for opening the gate are trying to clean up their mess.

[ a pause. a slight exhale through his nose. ]

I intend to go.

Wha--?

[Something in that suggestion makes Allen's stomach clench. It's not only pessimistic and morbid, but for a split-second it makes him wonder, makes him question... They really don't know much about this group of people helping them, do they? They don't know this world, they have to just trust what they're told and what if they're wrong.

He shoves the doubt down; it won't do to panic in the only space they have without clear reason or evidence.]

It's a possibility, but there's no evidence of that at all, sir. And while I don't wish to underestimate these men or the situation, I find it hard to believe they'd be able to clear away some of the people listed so easily. At least one of them is a skilled fighter I know very well; she wouldn't be taken down easily. I don't believe the professors are responsible.

... And you intend to go to the ruins, or intend come with us to the station?

And the cult? [ his smile remains. ] It took two groups to make that portal exist, after all. When they're the two groups who know our origins, and some of us go missing...

Isn't that incriminating.

[ ... and though the professors had interrupted the ceremony... what about the cult itself? what about this investigation they're all planning? how much of that could be playing a role in these disappearances?

hahah. he wasn't worried, especially. but if there was something getting in the way of going home, that would be a pain. ]

You have the station covered well enough, I see. I'll be going to the mansion.

[ less eyes to watch over him, there. more than likely. ]

It may be incriminating for this cultist group, but not for anyone involved in this mansion and its maintenance, I'm sure. [He isn't close to any of the people who had been so kind as to arrange the mansion to be their safe-haven, but he is protective enough of the idea of giving people the benefit of the doubt sometimes several times over to remain firm in his response.] But even then, for all we've been told, the cultists are only men too--that's why they must have been summoning something, because they don't have power themselves.

[He draws in a quiet, slow breath; he has to stick to that logic and not let himself spiral into panic from the possibility that the unknowns this man is flagging up may hold a worrying amount of water.] Lenalee certainly wouldn't be taken down by mere men.

Has something in particular sparked your interest about the ruins, sir?

Daisya's gone.

[A pause, and then reluctantly because he just knows this is going to become a conversation, and he'd much rather it didn't.]

He went after Lenalee.

[He opens his mouth to reply with something childish and fairly immature, but he stops himself as a couple of realisations sweep through him; mocking Kanda does not respect the severity of the situation, for a start.]

Mm... That's worth knowing. [A half-beat passes.] ... Thank you for telling me, I'll let Link know too. [Of course, Allen is currently unaware that Link is also one of the missing.]

When did he go to look for her?

Yesterday. He followed a lead from the night I found her gone.

He-y.

Hey, heyyyy. This is how you use it, right? You can hear me, right? So I can just start talking? Wao, this phone is ollld.

... Ah.

What are you talking about. Missing people? [ isn't the problem that people have arrived?... unless allen's one of those guys who wants it to happen, or something. ]

Huh? Er... Yes, yes I can hear you. The phones are all connected up, so anyone can hear these conversations, unless you dial into a specific room directly. You'd have to hang up and redial though.

[He doesn't make comment on the statement that the phone is old, but it fairly telling to him that this person must be another from some kind of future set-up or at least somewhere more technologically advanced. He skips that though and moves on to answer the man's question.]Yes, some people who were here before have gone missing. A small group of us arrived together about two weeks ago, and since then every few days, or there abouts, a few more people appear here too, through the portal under the mansion. But some people have vanished, at least three or four from the first batch and then a couple of others too. There's no sign to say that they were taken by force, and some have suggested that they just left off their own free will, but...I know one of them from my world, she wouldn't have just left without saying something. So people have ( ... )
