phone call: all ☆ october 11th.

[This call comes a little after the meeting has ended, with enough time that you might have had a quick snack or made it to your room to lounge around and relax. Her voice is amiable and warm, almost cloying.]That was an interesting meeting, wasn't it? Suppose it was a little much, hoping for a vacation. I've only been here two days, but that's ( Read more... )

Well *this* should be an interesting conversation. /headinhands kandescence October 9 2011, 20:49:23 UTC
[He's ignoring half--no, more like three quarters--of what she just said. The stuff about stalking and autographs and zombies doesn't interest him. Actually, he has firmly decided that he's not curious about any of it.

His interest is purely pragmatic. And he's determined for it to stay that way.]

What do you mean you're a 'magic user'?

[If she had been here a little longer, she'd be more inclined to rattle off on some inane tangent, even though he hadn't left an opening for her to do that.]

I meant that I use magic. [Smart ass.]

[Not finding any amusement in that. He doesn't bother to hide his short patience.]

What do you mean by "magic"? Like that ritual down there. You know something about that?

Or do you do something else. [Why yes, he might just be implying a more sinister implication of the word.]

lmao the poor dear... well. maybe if it was anyone else. fishnets October 13 2011, 21:49:29 UTC
Something like that? Yeah. Sort of. Sometimes. [Wow, she is being ultra-helpful, isn't she?]

I don't really know much about it, but from the looks of it, it would seem what brought us here was shoddily done, interrupted, and probably by someone a little more advanced than an amateur, but definitely not by a magician. [Real magicians are sneaky bastards.]

[Oh hey. He knows that voice. A bit unexpected to hear her here and now, but perhaps it shouldn't be.]

Hullo, Zatanna. Didn't expect to run into you here.

That eager to work together again, are you? Can't blame you, really - the rest of this lot seems bloody useless so far. [Not that he's met most of them, of course. But it's a safe enough bet.]

[There's a bit of a surprised sound. Her voice drops the more showy aspect to it. It's all genuine from here.]

You give me too much credit, assuming I knew you were here already? [She might have felt a disturbance in the force.] Hi, John.

You called me. Stood to reason you knew who you were calling.

And here we are, expected to clean up someone else's mess once again. I'm beginning to feel like someone's trying to make a statement about my lifestyle.

I called everyone. Did you think I was just playing coy with this call?

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

That's not bad logic, that if magic brought us here it should be able to get us back. Is that something you have some experience with then? Travelling using magic?

As for clothing... I know we have a few women here who have been adjusting to the change in style. Though I'm unsure if they're from a similar situation and time as you or not, I know some are--were--no, er... [He flusters a little, then clears his throat to try that sentence again.] There were at least two young women from an earlier time than this, but at least one is...missing right now.

Ah, b-but that doesn't really help you. S-sorry! What I mean is, there are people here who might be able to help with that, otherwise if you'd like someone to show you the local areas and where the shopping district is I'd be glad to help.

I have experience with traveling using magic, yes.

[She's unsure where he's heading with it, at least until he stutters. They had to have been scantily clad.] I see. [There's a moment where it sounds lie she means to add more to the conversation, but decides against it. He isn't the one to ask about why no one is looking for a missing girl, but is focused on someone already confirmed dead.]

That would be helpful, I think, since you're the first to volunteer. I can make due, for now, but I'm a little hesitant to go out and about on my own.

OH I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT /feeling the fail pretty hard right now ;;;; excommunicated November 12 2011, 01:15:10 UTC
I haven't really heard anything like that before, at least not defined as magic-use, if that makes sense. I'm fairly sure the people who opened the portal here weren't thinking of it as magic at least. But is it fair to assume that when you've travelled that way you've been in complete control of it?

[The matter of missing people isn't an easy one for him, but a calm face in front of people is a kind of formality, especially a new arrival who he's trying to get some kind of sense of. It's a distraction even, lest he end up disregarding the advice he was given to try and stay calm and not to take off on his own.]Ah, that's fine by me, really. Most of us have been to the town already at least once so I don't mind keeping you company and it wouldn't be any trouble, just let me know whenever you'd like to go. Er... I hope you don't mind me asking, but is what you're wearing right now really so unsuitable for this place ( ... )

LMAO TWO WEEKS LATER no but really never... don't reply. :< fishnets November 13 2011, 06:24:32 UTC
It could make sense, I suppose. If there were more details given... is, ah, the portal your first experience with that sort of "instant" style of travel, then? And yeah, I've, ah... well, what I do is similar to that.

[She doesn't seem to notice that it's taking him any sort of effort. Or, at least she doesn't offer any indication that she's aware there's more to this than the usual exchange of pleasantries.]

I appreciate that and... ah, unfortunately if I were to wear what I have now in public, some might mistake me for... [How do you say this without saying "prostitute" or "hooker" and still get the point across that you are not one... w e l p.] It's ah, showy, basically. It's appropriate for the sort of work I do and that is really it. [Except not. And it didn't make it sound any better, Zee.]

Zatanna Zatara -- Zatanna's fine -- and it's nice to meet you. So to speak.
