Looks like... A stationery booklet; it looks like something someone would write a letter on, tear it out along perforated edges, then fold it and send away. Simple parchment, a bit more elegant than most, however. Regal, almost. Dark ivory cover, with a wrap around binding strip of leather.

I don't think the sorting hat was wrong, but sometimes I really don't trust my housemates. In fact, I'd rather I was with the muggleborns someplace else.
