Sunday was the last day of the convention. I packed everything up and dropped my room keys off, then took the shuttle over to the convention one last time. I dropped my luggage off at the desk and went to wander aroud the open gaming area.
Guts of Glory is a little weird. The game is about eating "food" (e.g. tires, napkins, and so on) for victory points. Each player has a mouth with two types of zones, one for food and one for condiments. Once food has been chewed enough, it is eaten and points scored. Food may also have effects either while it is in your mouth or when it is eaten. You can only chew so much on your turn, though, and if you're unable to keep up with the incoming food, you have to pass some (possibly partially chewed) food to the next person. This may trigger a chain reaction.
The mechanics of the game seemed pretty solid, but I didn't care for the theme.
The lending library closed at 1 PM, so new games were slowing down as people wrapped things up to return borrowed games. I also had a flight soon, so I didn't want to start anything. The vendors area also closed at 1, and most of them were trying to unload excess inventory so they wouldn't have to ship it back. I snagged a copy of Qin and a copy of Hanabi for $35 combined, which was about a $5 discount off Amazon. I didn't have space for more games, nor did I see some of the others I was interested in getting. Maybe next year.
I like board games, and BGG.con delivered. It's conveniently on the way home during Thanksgiving, I had fun, and I'm pretty sure I'll be attending for years to come. Perhaps I'll see some of you there?
