To say that Junhong was sick of being treated like a child who understood nothing was an understatement. He noticed that his hyungs were careful with their words around him; he noticed how they babied him and took care of him. Don’t misunderstand, it was nice to have five older boys take care of him, like brothers, but they tended to overdo it and it got… tiring.

It was one of those days when he got home from school a little earlier -his teacher had allowed him to go because he had a headache that could kill - and found Yongguk, Himchan and Daehyun joking around in the living room. As soon as Himchan spotted him he tried to calm the other two, tapping their shoulders and telling them to be careful with their words; Junhong was home.

The three looked at him with silent smiles, but Junhong didn’t smile back. When he instead narrowed his eyes at them, their expressions morphed into confusion. “I am not a child,” Junhong spat before he turned on his heels and went to his bedroom, slamming the door shut behind him and locking it before he curled up on his bed.

Not even three minutes had passed until there was a soft knock on his door. “Junhong?” Yongguk. Junhong rolled his eyes to himself and turned so his back was to the door, ignoring Yongguk’s attempt at opening the door. “Junhong-ah, open up.”

“Leave me alone!” Junhong called back and promptly buried his face in his pillows. There was a soft thud as Yongguk leaned his head against the door, Junhong guessed.

“Junhong, please? I want to talk to you.”

Junhong snorted to himself and sat up in his bed so he could yell properly at the door. “I don’t want to talk to you!”

Only silence followed and Junhong thought Yongguk had finally given up. With a sigh, he lied back down and once again curled up on his bed, trying to get some sleep so maybe his headache would finally leave him alone.

But Yongguk hadn’t given up. Junhong had unfortunately forgotten that their leader had extra keys to all their rooms and he came back five minutes later, easily unlocking the door and stepping inside before locking it behind him again. Junhong decided to pretend to be asleep when he felt the bed dip as Yongguk sat down on the edge.

A warm hand landed on his shoulder and rolled him onto his back. “Stop pretending to sleep.” Junhong opened his eyes and glared at Yongguk who merely smiled back. There was a pause before Yongguk heaved a sigh and made himself comfortable against the headboard of Junhong’s bed.

“We know you’re not a child,” he said, staring at the opposite wall. “It’s just… we care about you, okay? We don’t want you to be hurt, and we want you to… discover things at your own pace.”

“I know. It’s just that sometimes you overdo it. You can care for me without treating me like a child, you know?” Junhong answered, staring at the ceiling. There was another small pause.

“I’m sorry,” Yongguk finally apologized. Junhong hummed. It’d be stupid not to accept the apology, because he knew how hard Yongguk was trying. “Hey, how come you’re home so early anyway? Don’t you quit in like… three hours or something? You’re not skipping are you?”

Junhong let out an exasperated groan and rolled over so his back was once more facing Yongguk. “I’m not skipping. My head is about to explode.”

“Oh. Want me to get you some painkillers?”

“That’d be nice, thanks hyung.”

Yongguk left the room and re-appeared a few moments later, this time with an Aspirin and a glass of water which he put on Junhong’s bedside table. The younger sat up and quickly swallowed the small pill. “Thanks, hyung.”

Yongguk nodded and ruffled his hair. “Try to sleep some now, yeah?”

Junhong nodded and bit his lip, hesitantly looking up at Yongguk. “Hyung…” Yongguk paused in the doorway and turned back to face Junhong with a small smile on his lips. “Stay with me until I fall asleep?”

Yongguk’s smile widened and he walked back into the room and lied down on the bed next to Junhong. Junhong, encouraged by the elder’s compliance, grabbed one of Yongguk’s wrists and pulled his arm to lie around his waist. Yongguk chuckled at the other’s sudden show of affection but didn’t comment on it as he simply pulled him closer.

Maybe it was exactly was Junhong needed, he thought, affection without being treated like a child. He promised himself he’d try harder to care for the youngest in the future.
