Note 001

The handwriting here is deliberate, but with very awkward pressure levels on the ink, as if the writer is more used to writing with a brush than a pen.]

I could not have come here by natural means. The calendar gives the date as the day after the last day I recall, yet I appear to have crossed two oceans in the space of a night. I cannot afford to ( Read more... )

I see I am not the only new arrival, nor the only one taken from across an ocean.

I can't say I recognize your handwriting. You must be as newly arrived as I am. If you could introduce yourself?

Kristoph Gavin, at your service. I'm from Berlin, in Prussia.

Have you been to England before, sir?

A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I have wanted to visit this country since I became aware of its existence as a child, but never imagined it would be under these circumstances.

What trade do you practice, sir? Forgive my rudeness, but the more knowledge I have of my fellow visitors, the better we can solve these... anomalies.

So you've done your research. Whatever the case, I am Allelujah, and it is a pleasure to meet you- in as much as these journals constitute meeting.

I assure you that if any of us were aware as to how we arrived here, we might have taken steps to correct this scenario. I cannot guarantee that any theories we have hold any truth to them.

A pleasure to speak to you directly, Mr. Haptism.

It is always wisest to fully research a situation before immersing oneself in it. No matter what anyone's theories are (no one seems to have publicly shared any), all of them must be considered, if only to be discarded.

Unfortunately, research prior to immersion was not an option for us. Even reading back in the journals before arrival only familiarizes yourself with a situation that is already present.

As for theories.. there are any number of them. With no evidence besides witnessing supernatural activity, we only have vague thoughts and ideas.

[several scratched-out starts]

That was not intended as a slur, just an explanation of my conduct. I realize I have an advantage that none of the earlier arrivals possessed.

And sometimes one piece of evidence is the key to unlock the case. What exactly have you observed, Mr. Haptism?

[A pause.]
I ought to meet with you all to hear your theories rather than trusting to this journal.

Well! Perhaps someone well-versed in these things will make this easier, as sadly the rest of us are only amateur sleuths-I think so, anyway.

I'm Lord Bradley, although I suppose you knew that already.

A pleasure to meet you. I believe I saw you in the garden of the house next door earlier.

There seems to have been very little investigation done so far. Perhaps it requires someone to organize all available information: I hope to have the rest of you assist me in that.

What can you tell me of English ghosts? I have several cousins who are exorcists and I gather that spirits here behave differently from home.

Yes, you probably did. I've planted a few melons, although they haven't sprouted yet.

Certainly! I assume that once we've figured things out, we'll be able to leave.

Hmm. Exorcists? How interesting! I assume they're different from English exorcists, correct?

Well, before this, I always thought English spirits were wild fancies. It's rather inconsistent on what exactly they can do; sometimes they can presumably be channeled, sometimes they can pick up and use tangible objects while remaining mostly intangible, and so on. I'm not the best person to ask, as my only previous experience with them has been working them into ghost stories, hahaha.

Most exorcists in Japan are priests and use prayers to drive spirits out, but my cousins apparently tame them and use them to combat malicious ones. I've never seen it done, myself.

It sounds like a foolhardy method for us.

Your spirits don't generally have a corporeal form, then? Were they formerly humans, or are they a separate class of creatures?

[this note was added a few minutes later]

Also, forgive the intrusion, but what do you know about the town outside?

Hello, Naoto! My name is Charlotte. It's a pleasure to meet you. Your presence here will be most useful, I suspect, as none of us are sleuths by trade.

A pleasure to finally speak to you, Miss Charles. Thank you for your confidence in my skill, I believe it is fully merited.

Might I ask you a few questions, either through this book or in person? Your name has come up as having observed most of these phenomena, and from my observations you seem to be the most familiar with these matters of anyone here.

[A pause. She's a little thrown by the fact that he knows her last name. Perhaps Allelujah told him.]

Of course, Mr. Shirogane. I would be happy to assist you in any way I can - the sooner we can get all of this sorted out, the better.

How would you prefer to meet, madam? My English is [a pause] limited, but staying in this one room at a book, when you know the person is only a a few moments' walk from you, grows rather wearing.
