Someone just say computer? My geek alert went off...
Whats up?
For starters, if you have windows xp or windows 2000 you can turn your computer on and the first time you see the windows logo, hit F8 and it should take you to a different screen. If so then try choosing the option "last known good config.." That can get you back in.
If you have absolutly no video when you turn the computer on, then unplug the computer and push the power button to discharge the power in the system. If the machine turns on, then reread this paragraph :p
ok here's the thing, the hard drive spins so hopefullt I can save my info. I tried a different video card and same thing. I already tried the power button to discharge the power. I can't get into set up at all when I tried to boot up the new hard drive I just bought, I couldn't even get it to go into BIOS.
My ameture guess is that the mother board fried. I remember it getting changed a few years ago for a reason similar to this except that I could actually run it.
My mom is taking a trip down to Santa Ana where my tech uncle lives so he can fix it, which I know he can cause he's the shit like that. She's leaving thursday and should be back by monday. I hope that they can fix it by then.
If anything good came out of this is that I went from a 40 to 120 hard drive (yes yes I know its tiny but I had that thing running sooooo smoooth you wouldn't even know it!)
so you think you can help me out before she takes off down south?
Ok so did this problem come up after you installed a new hard drive? Also do you have a surge protector?
And no worries about 40 gigs, I have a 120 and I am using maybe only like 20 gigs, so I am wasting the other 100 hehe.
If your mom is making a special trip let me know because thats way too far for support, or if your going crazy without a PC let me know :) I would have to pick up the computer from you and keep it for a day to look it over. If it is something I can resolve then I will let you know; I will not be shy about saying if I can't as well :)
What I can do is connect your hard drive to my PC and use my operating system to access your hard drive and pull files across, and just build the PC with a the new hard drive. Or if you have a second PC you can give it a shot if you feel like an adventure ;)
