I really have started to feel so sorry for women actors in Japan stages! But, of course, it's because most of the reviews I read are of performances aimed at young women fans of young male actors. Maybe there are performances aimed the other way that leave the male actors as primarily walk-ons.

And with that off my chest! The show sounds really weird and funny, and the odd mix of different aged actors probably only made it even more surreal and amusing. And that tiny theater! I've never been in such a small one that wasn't for amateur productions only. It must seem like the actors are nearly in your lap!

Well Takurazuka is a HUGE women only performance group. They're bigger than 2.5 theatre (which is what I primarily watch) and there's Sailor Moon; again a huge production and is an all women's cast. The older gen aimed stage shows too are more equal in men-women ratio and audience.
I just think this time It was more to do with her being so young AND in order for the script to not become too pedophillic that her role ended up being so small. And also to do with the fact I don't have interest in casts that have women.
But you've seen in my non2.5 watching like Onigiri and Soul flower; a lot of women and they're all playing badass and big roles. I dare say Sengoku Basara has amazingly strong women in. Bleach and naruto are HUGE 2.5 stages and they have strong women and actresses in it too. I just don't watch those so it seems like they're not getting as fair of a chance.
