No I don't have the anime for you.. and yes I'm sure a lot of you are going to go (why am I reading this then) Well.. I'm talking about the anime :) ...*ahem* Anyway..
I was able to get the anime through netflix and I'll be watching the series this way but will buy the set in the future. When I do I think I'll try to rip it so I can give you all the avis ;) But until then... let talk a bit about the difference of the anime TV series and manga shall we?
First off I will do my best to avoid any spoilers, or at least skirt around them so don't worry about that. And this is in regards to the anime and manga.
Jomy's story in the manga as a quick decent into a lot of action, drama and pain. The manga is actually hard to follow at times, especially the beginning because it doesnt pace itself well. The anime on the other hand takes a nice calm approach to it all and give hints to the future of the characters in just the first episode.
There are some drastic changes... in the manga Jomy's world is dark, and calculating. He has no one to turn to who will help him, even his parents reject his needs. In the anime his parents actually care, they love him and it's very obvious. This is an extreme contrast when comparing them to his parents in the manga... In the manga's story Jomy is so affected by his childhood that for the rest of his life he goes wonders if they ever loved him, if they forgot about him, if they moved on to another child. His obsessive thoughts, about his mother especially, affect him and the entire Mu race. Now I'm not sure how this will come about in the anime.. I'm thinking his attitude towards parents and mothers will be filled with more love and hope than in the manga but who knows. The point is I doubt he'll have the same dark and depressing feelings towards his parents in the anime.
Another big difference is the weeping mouse. It's actually CUTE in the anime! In the manga... the mouse is ugly as hell.. the author did try to make it "the cute animal character" but it just didn't work. Here's the comparison.. see for yourselves...
Manga (You totally want this sleeping next to you... don't you...)
Anime much better :)
Besides those changes the anime made Jomy seem a lot older. I don't remember if the age to be an adult in the manga weas also 14 but he acted more like a elementary school student, around 11 or 12. In the anime the children visually look like they are in high school, oh and Sam is actually pointed out and given a prominent role in the begining. In the manga he just kind of showed up after the first time skip. I also noticed Jomy's "love interest" bah... I don't really care for that. I prefer the asexual Jomy from the manga who at most felt affection for Physis.
I will say the anime has it's good points like updating the visuals. Helping the story flow better and having cooler sci fi elements like the ship Jomy goes into for his Adult Examination. Much better than a scooter.. and it makes more sense, who the hell uses a scooter for a theme park ride? The anime visuals are good but lack in the intense imagery of the manga where one panel flows into another, showing you just how disturbing this world is and helping you feel the characters intense emotions. The manga also doesnt result to cheap action in order to continue the plot, attacks psychological since that's the Mu's power and the theme of the series. I literally laughed out loud when in the anime Soilder Blue punched Terra's #5 Computer in the first episode WTF? XD
If you havent noticed by now, I really love this series and you should give the manga or anime a chance if you like sci fi, manga from the 70's or just an interesting plot. There is also a same sex male relationship for the latter half of the manga (I hope it's in the anime too) which is surprising to see in such an old manga.
PS I'm sick and bedridden.. at least for today so that's why you are getting a long post (>_<) and why I get to watch anime. (>_>)
