So I think I mentioned here a while back that I was filmed for a commercial for my town. Well the purpose was to enter it in this 宮城ふるさとCM大賞('Miyagi Hometown Commercial competition') thing. So a couple of weeks ago at the JET October Meeting, our PAs (Prefectural Advisors) reminded us to get in contact with our supervisors about whether they were willing to have us renew our contracts for next year. My car died again Saturday night, drving home from yosakoi practice. This is the third time the battery has died while I've been on the road, leaving me stranded in the dark. It's O-Bon here, so that means that most Japanese are going home to families to clean up ancestral grave sites etc, and festivals abound! I also have through Monday off, which is wonderful - going to work during summer break is incredibly boring as I have nothing to do - I spend my day practicing kanji etc online or reading Tamora Pierce in ( Read more... )

Car update: car is back, and running fine now. Apparently a belt that ran to the alternator was loose or something? My car guy talks funny so it's hard to understand what the heck he's saying, and Japanese car terminology doesn't seem to be directly translated a lot of the time (so far I've learned 'mishon' for transmission, and 'dainamo' is ( Read more... )

So I finally made a trip back to the US, after almost 3 years. It was interesting: part of me felt like I'd never left, and the rest of me was all 'WTF this is weird.' But besides the reverse culture shock etc, it was a lovely trip.

So I was going to post today about my trip home, but I'm SO ANNOYED that I need to rant. Probably will post about my trip (which was awesome, BTW ^.~) tomorrow or Monday.
