Being the original teenage assistant to a lawyer, Maya possesses a very overenthusiastic personality. She’s naturally cheerful, spunky and impulsive which makes her great company to have around. Maya is naturally curious and when she’s with Phoenix, she is a little liberated. She will touch anything that remotely interests her which causes Phoenix to tap into his rebellious side. Usually though, this is successfully accomplished by some friendly bullying. She will attempt to sweet talk Phoenix to get her way but if he flatly refuses she resorts to downright forcing him. The two share a rather friendly relationship which gives Maya an excuse to abuse his generosity at times. This blatant abuse is usually covered by a cloud of illogical statements, prompting Phoenix to give up whatever arguments he has and allowing Maya to get her way. But overall, Maya’s accompaniment with Phoenix is always rather amusing and always very helpful.
Maya is also a rather obsessive fanatic. She’s hooked on food, being Wright’s assistant and of course-The Steel Samurai. When it comes to food, Maya has about ten separate stomachs for any different types of food. It’s rather notable as Maya seems to want to eat anything she comes in close proximity to. Additionally, Maya really does enjoy Phoenix’s occupation. She likes to watch him battle it out in court and is usually the one responsible for many of the clients he defends. Maya usually picks cases that concern famous people (like the Steel Samurai and Max Galactica) because she is a big fan of their respective careers. Moreover, and what may be the most important thing she obsesses over is The Steel Samurai franchise (basically any movie with samurais). The Steel Samurai is a live action TV show and Maya is one of its biggest fan, collecting trading cards, DVDs and recognizing what wigs were used on which show.
Silliness aside Maya has also demonstrated maturity and courageous throughout the games. Having been put through murder accusations and kidnappings, she has managed to overcome it all with a smile in the end. In the beginning, Maya was understandably depressed and insecure, especially when she realized how she was out of luck. But it didn’t stop her from trying. Maya also has a good sense of guilt, especially when she was under the impression that she had committed a murder. She’s hard on herself and less forgiving but as the case reveals her aunt to have framed her, she is quite confused on how she is meant to feel. Moreover, when Maya is kidnapped and trapped; she thinks quite logically and reacts rather calmly in the life-threatening situation. She realizes she needs to escape and calls for help via her Mia, her elder sister. Maya is usually saved but because of her ability to keep standing after it’s all over, has earned her respects as a very brave character.
After all the tribulations she had to endure, Maya still manages to hold strong for Phoenix and her younger cousin, Pearl. She puts them before herself and willingly tries her best to help them. She will blurt out things unnecessarily in order for Phoenix to win a losing battle and puts on a brave face for her cousin. Her tenacity in ensuring that her friends and family are safe makes Maya a very selfless character.
But despite her remarkableness, there have been a few instances where Maya’s insecurities come into a light. She feels unworthy and useless for being assigned the next Master especially knowing that both her mother and younger cousin were more talented as a medium than she was. Additionally, Maya is also quite depressed over the disappearance and deaths of her mother and sister. As both women were much older than she was, they were the ones who looked out for her; without them Maya is much more alone. She misses both of them dearly, but Maya realizes that she can look out for others too and that they’ll always be there for her. That’s why Maya makes it an obligation to help Phoenix, Pearl and all of her friends as much as she possibly can.

Maya is a spirit medium who practices the Kurain Channelling technique. This type of channelling is rather unique as the medium is not only mentally possessed by the spirit of the deceased-but their body also physically alters to match the appearance of the deceased. The physical change is rather limited as only the body type and face of the medium changes. Other aspects such as clothes and hairstyles, however, will stay the same.
Initially, Maya’s powers were weak but after undergoing the required training, she has developed her skills well enough to channel at will.
Um. And she can also eat almost twice her weight in any given type of food group because of multiple stomachs. 8D
