I came up with an idea to sort of introduce potential readers of this story/series to the characters, setting, and the basic idea of the story so that people know what to expect ( Read more... )

setting, main characters, terms

Selestia, the hidden village in the forest of Anvar where young children are brought to be taught the ways of magic.

Just realized how smimilar to Jedi this is. O_o Just don't make it too obvious, like some authors *coughpaolinicough* and you should be fine.

...Give me a break. The only thing I'd say is even -close- to something Star Wars related is Azura's connection to Sereven, but that's it. I never even thought nor intended about having it be similar to Jedi or anything having to do with Star Wars. I don't think it's too obvious at all. I can kind of see why you think so based on that stament, but..the concept has been used a billion times before. Hogwarts, for example, is a school for the same basic thing that Selestia is. The only difference is that it's one-on-one apprenticeship in Selestia...which is similar to the Jedi as well, but I never intended it to be that way, and have no interest in changing it at all.

Sorry if that sounded a bit bitchy, but what you said is enough to get any author a little miffed.

I merely meant that in the respect of the fact that they are taken away to be trained for a life in magic. Performed well, and this will be seen as a tribute. I do not think it should be changed, as it lends the alternate world you've created a sort fo dimension. Merely an observation; I hate it when people point out things like this, too.

Can I ask for a clarification?

Human vs. what, precisely? What are these elders, exactly? Are they not fully biologically human any more, or just not seen as being entirely human, because of their powers (which, by the by, are a wee bit vague, from the descriptions here. Are they more like nature-based elemental mages who derive their power from a natural energy found within nature, like in elements; are they wizards whose powers come from things like spells/incantations and combinations of gestures/rituals; or what, exactly, are they?) They sound vaguely druidic (or like half-elves or something) to me, from the sound of this hidden forest village . . .

o.o I think you misunderstood. I was just telling their species for the sake of being specific 'n stuff. They're human. They could be Elves or something if I wanted, but they're definitely human. Sorry if it confused you.

S'okay. I was reading kinda fast, in between other stuff, trying to cram everything in before I had to go. I wasn't sure if I'd just missed something or if you were implying that the people with powers aren't quite entirely human anymore. Which, you know, people do a lot, so much that I'm fairly sure I like this way better. So . . . what kind of range of powers are we talking about here, broadly speaking, or is that something that's still in development?

Powers for...who? The Elders, or Azura? Neither really have any awesome powers. They just...they have magic abilities, but I haven't specified any abilities that the Elders have, and I haven't given Azura any great powers because, one, it's cliche for the main character to have these awesome powers, and, two, I don't really know a lot about magic, so I haven't given Azura any major powers.

...Your LJ tells me nothing. It tells me you're apparently obsessed with posting poems/stuff about love. I ask again, who are you and why did you comment in my LJ?

Ah, I'm so glad there's no Snape. Because I thought Snape is evil? I mean, he killed Dumbledore and everything. Definitely evil behavior

...

What?

Was there a point to you commenting with that? Because I sure don't see one.

No, I wouldn't see the point either.

I apologise for the innane comment, but it was a dare from lilian_cho to comment with that particular sentence on 5 journals from her flist that weren't on mine.

My apologies for any confusion. I was only allowed to explain if you asked :)
