Announcement of sorts...

I think that, because of issues about first rights if you post stuff on the 'net, as well as anyone (friended by me, anyway) being able to just steal my writing and claim it as theirs, I'm going to be taking the chapters and outlines down from this journal and I will not be posting them any more. I was planning on doing that eventually, anyway, ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear that... It's true, a work in progress is quite subject to stealing but I'm sure none of your lj-friends would do that. As people who admire and respect the written word noone would steal somebody else's work.

I didn't know you kept another journal!

instead of deleting everything, why don't you set those entries to private? that's what i do over at tryphera. no one but you can see the things you don't want stolen and it's a very easy way to keep things organized and, frankly, it's another storage place! what would happen if your computer crashed and everything was lost? sure you might have hard copies but it's a horrible chore to put everything back onto a computer.

just an idea.

I added you after reading your ad at add_a_writer. And then I came here and my friend ssurprise is here! Anyway, I'm not sure about the legality either and am interested if you find out anything for sure. If I post writing, I make it f-locked and filtered.

I'm interested in reading your work and giving feedback if I can. You sound very serious which is nice to hear.

Hi. :) I just added you back. You don't have to since I all ready added you, but go to this entry if you want and answer the questions...and then when you go to read what I've written, use the questions in this entry when/if you critique, since they'll let you know what it is I'm looking for without pointing out anything that's all ready been pointed out too many times, if that makes sense. ^_^

Random thought in case no one mentioned it: Ever heard of the 'Poor Man's Copyright?' Basically you print out what you've written, toss it in an envelope and mail it to yourself. Once you receive it again you toss it in a drawer or filing cabinet and hold onto it. You DO NOT open it. *Writing what's in it, like certain chapter numbers, on the outside will be of help to you* This has held up, far as I know, in a court of law during cases of stolen work 1. Because the envelope is sealed 2. Because the date it ran through the post office is stamped on it. (almost like a public notary if you will).

Yes, I have. My uncle told me about it, although he didn't call it that term. But someone on a message board I joined told me that it only applies in England/the UK and not the US. Not 100% sure that I believe that, though.
