bear viewing!

So, I have this issue and I need the LJ hivemind to help.  
I really want to go bear viewing in Alaska, but thanks to the car accident in Scotland I really shouldn't* rearrange finances to do this. (Especially since not following my own company policy and not taking ou the CDW insurance was my own damn fault - even if the accident itself wasn't).

There are places a lot closer than Alaska to go watch Bears. If memory serves, there's a place or two in Minnesota where you can get pretty up close to them, and certainly almost anywhere in the lower 48 would have some kind of place for that.

If you must view bears, stay as close to home as possible. IMHO

I'm going to Alaska anyway. :P

And yes there are a couple of places in MN you can do this but they are habitats and still have fences (like the MN Wolf Center - that type of habitat). Here they take you out to the bears in THEIR habitat. So I could become lunch!
