  Tourist visas now require a bank statement showing a minimum balance of $2000.

Didn't/don't some countries require proof that you have enough money to live on for the length of time you will be in the country? And fewer people are carrying cash or traveller's checks these days.

I dunno...the one time I went overseas they barely looked at me. I guess we looked like we were on our honeymoon, or something.... :)

True - there are countries that require that, although it tends to be for long term stays. China tends to be the most restrictive and usually require a copy of your hotel reservations and such so they know you aren't going to try to stay. But I've never seen a country require a bank statement before - so that's a new one. :)
