i'm reading this really tedious book. it's called arabian jazz and it's by diana abu-jabar (who, incidentally, is going to be a featured speaker at some forum that my fiction class requires me to attend). i think the thing that really bugs me about this particular book is that all of the dialogue is spoken by arabs with arab accents. it's 400 pages

In my english class, my teacher told us to do that. That is, not to write about what we do with our boyfriends/girlfriends and basically not get too personal. But since you are taking a higher level class- I'm sure its a different matter. While, yes, I think there are some merits to writing deeply personal things, I think its best to allude to some of the details, and not to make it into a trashy pulp overview of the unspeakable horror that was her adolesence. Because everytime anyone who has read that story has to see you, all they can think is "FREAK!".
So anyway, I have totally gone on too long about that- what's new? I got a new phone so you should call me on it, because that would be swell!
