Things I Would Like To See Klaine Do Before They Have Sex (But Will Not) or, Why I Feel Cheated Out of Actual Relationship Development

(In no particular order)

1. Kiss (No, the drunken car makeout, however lovely and hot, does not count when they have not so much as pecked since last season.)

2. Sing a duet (that is not a breakup song)

3. Cuddle

4. Argue

5. Show any semblence of progress in physicality whatsoever

6. Indicate that they have been thinking about it for longer than an episode

7. Talk about it (See above)

8. Prove to me that Kurt somehow, in a matter of months, got over 17 years of sexphobia and intimacy issues. We’re not talking normal teenage nervousness, people. A few months ago, he could not say the word porn. He pretended sex did not exist.

9. The above deserves being said twice

10. Get a respectful, true-to-character development of relationship that speaks to the maturity they have displayed in all other aspects, and not a shocking, buzz-worthy ten minutes in a car that leads to the first discussion of sex we have ever seen them have, and a decision within the next twenty minutes to go through with it.

I understand that my opinion is not in the majority right now. That’s fine. But I feel pretty strongly about it, and I genuinely cannot buy that this “development” is anything other than the writers/Ryan wanting to soak up the media buzz about two gay characters having sex.

It makes absolutely no logical sense to me that they would have had Rachel, who has never had a personal aversion to sex, turn it down with her committed boyfriend, and Emma, a grown woman, is still unable to have sex because of her OCD, but Kurt is suddenly ready and raring to go. If they’re willing to tell us that having Blaine allowed Kurt to get over his issues, the same should be able to be said for Emma. But it hasn’t been.

And why should it be? No one would gasp and rave and write hundreds of articles about an adult heterosexual couple having sex.

Ryan Murphy, I finally understand what everyone else has bitched about for three years. Of course, I would decide to understand because of the one issue that has half the fandom forgiving you. Well played, sir. Well played.
