Alright...here is the next part.

I had to consider if after HBP I wanted to stay writing fanfic because some of my favorite pet theories were tossed out of the water. Put I figured it couldn't hurt to post what I have already written.

I hope its decent.

Finding Forever 3/5

It was in the papers for months. A hero of the war, the only reason the Order had won was dead. The Order’s spymaster, head of a legion of spies had passed away. Pretty words for what actually happened. The grey image of his funeral haunted the papers.

A coffin entering the ground while in front of everyone, a black cloaked Hermione granger watched, a single tear sliding down a pale cheek.

When Granger went to ground deep in the depths of the department of mysteries, Adrian finally learned the truth behind the pain in her eyes. Waiting for another dreaded announcement from Pansy, what would it be today? The sight of a faded Granger walking quickly past them, eyes unseeing brought out the whole story.

A secret apprenticeship during the war.

A gradual friendship.

One man’s descent into alcohol when he felt his only purpose was gone. So as the world celebrated and rejoiced, he drank and drank drowing his sorrow, regret and remorse in a bottle of Odgens. Drank his sorrows away until he drank himself to death. Leaving behind a brokenhearted Potions Mistress, that lost one of her best friends and her master in one.

Adrian slammed a pillow over his head. Granger had been right. His hangover was gone. Now the only pain left was knowing that he worried her. Somewhere along the way between watching her scurry across the ministry campus, and waking up in her guest room he had come to care for her. She was everything the other females in his life weren’t.

She wasn’t brash and abrasive like Pansy forever making bad descions. She definatly wasn’t stupid like his half-wit sisters, overtly and grotesqualy sexual like his mother or meddling and irritating like the little Weasley girl. Instead she seemed to him a modern day Atlas, carying the weight of the world. He wanted to ease her burden and while they remained close enough to snark and tease they were emotionally distant he would hesitate to even call her a close friend. This distance wasn’t what he wanted. She was the only woman in his life that had never done anything to hurt him.
As he lay there he could sense her approach. The smell of her perfume, wisteria and sandlewood, filled his nose. When he felt the pillow lift from his face he looked up into worried chocolate eyes.

“Kitten, I’m so sorr-”

“I meant it when I said drop it. I want to talk about you.”

“Kitten...” Aidrian could feel the whine in hbis voice and hated it. What was it about this woman that made him regress to childhood. He saw her glance at the muggle clock on the wall and glare.

“Aid, I have twenty minutes to get to work, all the coffee is gone and you are laying in my guest bed. What the bloody suffering fuck is going on with you?” She looked at the clock again and sighed. “Get up.”

“What?” She glared and pointed her wand and him, cleaning off the alcohol, sweat, smoke, and sorrow before he could feel nervous of her wand.

“You can sit in my office until I have a break at work.” She walked out the door, and as she shuffled her paper and over her shoulder she absently stated. “If you don’t come with me I WILL lock you in this apartment all day until I come back.”

He didn’t doubt her and like any sane man that has ever dealt with her, he followed quickly. The whole wizard world knew better than to cross Hermione Granger.

Followed and waited.

He sat in an office made smaller by the shelves of books and piles of carefully ordered papers. It smelled of perfume, dustyy books and potions, in other words it smelled just like its owner.

An hour later she returned with a scowl muttering to herself.

“Oh lets add the karaken eggs early and guess what happens. We won’t write anything down or set aside some of the base potion. Oh no, lets just set our boss back 3 months in research.”

“Researching what Kitten?”

Her head snapped up and she grinned at the familiar sight of Aidrian Pucey trying to figure out what was going on around him.

“What part of Department of Mysteries don’t you grasp? The mysteries part?”

She sat on the couch next to him and placed her head on his shoulder.

“The morons I work with decided to proceed with my reasearch without me. They thought I would be pleased they ruined almost three months of work.” She glared balefully at the wall.

Aidrian laughed, her glare nearly catapulted him back to potions classes at Hogwarts.

“That glare is perfect. Perfect vintage Sna--” he stopped and looked at his friend.

“Its ok Aid, I did learn the glare from Sev. Especially after I tried teaching his first year classes.” She laughed against his shoulder. “I miss him.”

“I know love. I know.”

The feeling of his hand on her hair broke her from her trance.

“Now you Aid.” She shifted to look at him. “Tell me. I swear I won’t let your least favorite words slip from my lips.”

He shook his head. “She took my money, my time and in truth she took my pride and that is what hurts the worst.” Shifting their positions, he laid his head against her chest and kept talking.

“She was quite frankly nothing more than a body to use. An endless siphon of the money I earned. But dammit she fucked someone else in the sleigh bed she made me buy after she moved into my house.”

“Cut the bullshit and tell me the truth.”

He sighed. “It wasn’t really her, it wasn’t that Gabrielle broke my heart. Rather, it was it wasn’t her. I wanted it to be her so badly. I wanted to find forever so badly that I ignored how bad she was for me.

“Forever?”

“That feeling when you hold someone and you know you would be happy to stat there forever. That feeling that you would know forever would mean nothing without her there with you.”

Hermione blinked back tears. “Thats beautiful Aid.”

He looked up into her tear filled eyes.

“Were you in love with him?”

“Who?”

“Severus. Is that why you hurt so badly.”

Deep inside Aidrian felt his stomach churn at the thought of his Hermione with his old Head of House.

She smiled sadly.

“No I almost wish I was, but I’m not, I just miss him. I guess I am like you. I’m just rying to find forever.”
