manga spotlight #1: G-senjou no neko by Miyagi Tooko

Jan 11, 2011 20:44

Preface: As my manga list on MAL gets so big, I realized I don't even remember some of those I had read before, so I decided that from time to time (depending on my energy level or lack thereof) I shall post a little spotlight on a manga I've loved. I mostly read BL manga (not always, really) and most of them are sadly, crap... but since I've read ( Read more... )

Nice review. 8)

I took a peek at the artwork. It looks cute.

Is this the type of BL manga you like?

I'm reading stuff that's different, I guess. I avoid stories that are too angsty or characters that are or look too young. I used to read many reviews when I started buying manga but, now, I have developed my own list of mangaka whose work I like and I buy their books regularly. Lately, I've been very much taken with the more recent works of SHOOWA, Nishida Higashi, Inoue Satoh and Meiji Kanako.

How goes the Stephen King book? Have you finished reading it? All 1,000+ pages? XD

Thanks, will see how long I can do this before giving up XD

I like when there's a story, but if the manga is about the sex and it's hot that's great too XD I do have types of characters (I prefer short haired guys) and I love high school stories and best friends romance and I love angst, but not tragedy... I also have some mangaka that I love, but sometimes there are stories I don't like from mangaka I love... I really need there to be a good story to fully enjoy it.

As for the Stephen King story, I'm on page 478 or so... right after the market riot. I've been a manga craze recently (seinen, not BL!) so I haven't returned to the book yet..

Most of the manga I read happen to have short-haired men but I guess that's because most of the stories deal with working guys. Heh. I'm not one for high school romances. (But there are exceptions. Like Takaido Akemi's Breakfast Club series. I liked that one. It's funny and sexy.) Office workers, police officers, sadistic criminals, frustrated older men, crazy military types, disenchanted artistes, these are the types of character that pop up in the manga I buy. I don't like angst. I think I prefer tragedy to angst. 8|

You've made it just about halfway through! =D

Well, I think the high school uniforms are sexy? XD; (we don't have such thing here...) I dunno why I like teen characters even tho I can't stand teens irl, maybe becayse they're usually pretty? I do read manga with older characters too of course, tho very little oyaji.. I prefer the older ones being in the 30s or late 20s. I don't like how oyaji are drawn with bags under their eyes or strange wrinkles...

I love angst as long as it's Hurt/Comfort... it makes me feel good, idk XD

lol that's why I said it's subjective :)

on MAL you can compare your anime and manga compatibility with other users, it's part of the fun, I wonder how we would fare XD

my list wasn't that big at first, and I've already kept a list of the anime I watched when I started it... there were a lot I didn't remember and added later, but for the manga I'm sure there are still things that aren't on my list even tho I've read them ^^
but it's fun! I'm a bit crazy about keeping lists like that and about stats XD; (too bad there's no Jdrama/movies list though I've only seen a few)

add me as a friend on MAL? :)

I can friend? I'll do that!
Kyaaa even still I've never read as much manga as you!!!!
Ye know manga used to be really expensive when I was kid.
It's only since internet and since I had my own computer(which was late I'm usually late with everything electronic XD) that I was able to enjoy lots of anime/manga stuff.
Anyways at first I was filling out most of the questions on my mal list and than after 3 times orso I stopped. Cause it'll take forever!! So I just added. I'll have to edit those some day :s.
I send a friend request..dang I didn't even know there was a profile XD. I need to fill that too! NOOoOOOooo

Most of it is short crappy BL manga, hardly an accomplishment xD; I've not been in a reading mood for a long time and continued to collect through LJ some manga that sounded interesting, so eventually I realized I've kept so many and didn't read anything and it just takes space so I went on a reading spree which got my list to where it is now XD;; (And I guess the only way you can come across a good one is if you read a lot >_<)

and I also only got to first enjoy both anime and manga through the internet. except I was much older than you when I started, so never say never ;D
