Well maybe it'll improve upon rewatching. It worked really well for me, but I hadn't read the graphic novel in a while, so maybe I wasn't anticipating things as much as you were. But I kinda have to agree with you a bit. After I saw the movie, I went and watched the whole motion comics version of Watchmen, and there's definitely a lot more thematic/symbolic depth going on in the original source material. I think it's an issue with Snyder films in general. For instance, I really liked 300 when I saw it, but I haven't seen it since it was in theaters, and I own a dvd of it that I've never watched. I think this movie suffers a similar problem in that it's a very lovely but shallow recreation of the source material. It's easy to appreciate how cool and accurate it looks, but it doesn't really resonate on a deeper level with the viewer
