The English Question

Several hours ago, I went outside to buy books and phone credit. I get only several steps away from my door when a older French lady stops me to question me about my attire, and whether or not I'd been frostbitten yet; this happens, perhaps, more frequently than it should.

It seems it would not be too much trouble to tell the simple truth and say "no, I'm American, but I am attending uni at Edinburgh." That you are currently in France is a given. I suppose once you get into the reasons you ARE in France, it approaches "life story," but at that point the person you are speaking to has obviously ASKED for it.

Hello from my hotel room in Athens. I tell everyone I'm from Philly, too.

I suppose I just feel that even adding the "attending uni in Edinburgh" part is both somewhat pretentious and irrelevant, except that it isn't irrelevant TO ME, Edinburgh being a large part of what I love and think about all the time, which is also why I don't like leaving it out... Though, I guess it's also because I AM somewhat pretentious and, although I do enjoy being American, I do like being able to add my qualifier...or something. I don't know.

Yay Athens! Is it excellent? I'm enjoying your instantaneous Facebook photo documentation of it and look forward to hearing about it in the future.
