About the Election

Nov 17, 2008 14:30

I realize I have not yet posted about the big election a couple of weeks ago. I was relieved and pleased at the presidential results. I'm glad the people of the USA decided to elect a smart man this time. A giant leap for Geek-Americans? We can but hope so! I can stop feeling embarrassed to be an American ( Read more... )

But it's only illegal for "certain people". Sounds like discrimination to me. So what Californians are saying is that ONLY HETROSEXUALS should have the right to a miserable marraige they can't get out of without beind screwed by the ex and their lawyer in a court of law.

Ok, I just re-read that and when I put it that way is sounds like the law is doing gays a favor.

I'm all FOR same sex marraige. If you love someone enough to spend the rest of your life with them than there's no reason to deny them their rights. I say let gays marry. they're consenting adults. It's their choice if they want to be as happy or as miserable as the rest of us.

YEP. Well, it's all about the pursuit of happiness. No guarantees of results, but everyone should be allowed to pursue.

I received this letter moments before I read your post.
"Dear Friend,
Angry about Proposition 8? We are too.
Lambda Legal, ACLU, and NCLR have already filed a lawsuit with the California Supreme Court challenging Proposition 8. This amendment defies the very concept of equal protection and it was passed in a manner that violates the constitution of the State of California.
Support Lambda Legal. Help us make it right!"

I donated.

I was just finishing a research paper trying to understand why people think same-gendered marriage undermines traditional marriages. All the evidence I could find pointed to the contrary. They strengthen each other.

SRSLY on all counts!

(joke) If I were Minister of Propaganda, I'd be out there going "Make all the gay people get married so they aren't a threat to your secure heterosexual marriages!" 'Cause yeah, they're single, and they're going to poach your spouse. Talk to stupid people, use stupid arguments. They all believe in Sarah Palin, so this can't be that hard of a sell. ^_^ (/joke)

Yes, I am so glad we don't have to have Sarah Palin as VP. Being "folksy" doesn't make it OK to be stupid.

As far as I know, religious institutions are allowed to discriminate horribly, based on anything their pointy heads desire, as long as they don't take public funds for it.
