living space

I was having a dissatisfied-with-life moment, maybe having accidentally surrounded myself with too many people who are having extended dissatisfied moments, so I thought I'd make a list of things I miss about living in places that are not Singapore and see if it really is as long and irreconcilable as I always imagine it to be.

things...and stuff. )

Yes! I've only been once but I fully support roller disco. Maybe a little funk too? Also, roller mischief.

I really like the 3 categories -- I think its a good way to start analysing the whole dissatisfaction thing. I've been generally inclined to think of it as a negative reaction to just having horizons seem to suddenly shrink by virtue of having to come back and be pigeonholed into working life, but then I've had friends who studied here who've gone overseas to work and really do seem to be enjoying life more overseas. So there must be something to it ( ... )

And in any case, dissatisfaction, I think, is the great motivator of human achievement. No great things were ever achieved because people were happy with where they started.

I think I agree. This is probably why I sometimes feel I never lived up to the potential expected of me when I was growing up - I'm relatively easily satisfied. On the other hand, hey, I get to be satisfied the vast majority of the time.
