Ever After High?

Due to budget and space constraints, I haven't been adding much (or anything, really) to my doll collection lately. As a result, I've fallen pretty far out of the loop on new-doll info from the past couple of years. Even so, I will occasionally poke my head into the doll aisle in passing to see what's what, and it was in the course of one such ( Read more... )

They're a spin-off from MH, though the bodies are different sizes (but constructed similarly) and the heads are very lemon-pumpkin headed which is one of my least favorite things about them. They look so very blah and the characters are so very much not blah. I wish I liked the dolls more than I do, but part of that is probably also due to not being able to pop in to a store and look at them until recently as Justice had a weird first dibs thing on them and I'm not 12 anymore so my need to hit Justice is non existent. :p

I really like the world they're slowly building and I'm a sucker for the initial conflict they've set up. I just... wish the dolls had more life to them, I guess.

Maddie is my favorite (I'm a sucker for breaking the fourth wall and it's always time for tea in Maddie's world) with Raven running a close second. I want Legacy Day Raven in first wave Raven's outfit.

Ah! That explains why I haven't seen them. (Side note: a clothing store for tweens? That's terrifying.) The heads are really odd! Almost like MyScene having an allergic reaction to a bee sting :p I like Maddie, too. She and my Liv Doll Mad Hatter could hang out together.

Oddly, the people at both Justice stores I visited last week (looking for a MH doll who is impossible to find) were very, very nice, but yeah, I get twitchy having to enter a tween clothing store.

That might be the best description of their face molds yet!

I suspect that if the dolls do well enough, I'll be picky about everyone except Maddie, who will get a free pass.

I have Raven and Snow White, I found them on sale at -- yup -- Justice. It's funny to me that they do not use the same bodies or head style as Monster High. Since the incredible head sculpts are what I love about MH, I like these a bit less but I have yet to repaint them. They feel a bit inspired by Blythe to me. The bodies and clothes are cute and the shoes can be swapped with MH.

I find them a bit bland myself. I watched a few webisodes on the website before the dolls came out, just to get a feel for what the line was going for, but I felt it lacked the originality and humor of the Monster High line.

I've seen the dolls themselves in stores now (Justice & Target), but I'm not a fan of the pumpkin-head look, and their clothes are a little too frou-frou for my taste. (Though Raven Queen is definitely the best, IMO.) At this point though, I'm actually relieved not to like them, since my doll collection is starting to reach titanic proportions! I think I have 15 of Frankie Stein alone...
