I'm sorry that's how things are looking for you right now. It seems like that's pretty typical at most of the schools my friends end up teaching at. Really frustrating.

Houston's rush hour is a nightmare. The lanes on the highway(the one I used to get to and from the airport) were so narrow, it was just a tad terrifying.

Unfortunately, permanent full-time positions at colleges and universities are very hard to get without a doctorate (and sometimes even with one). I suspect that this is due to administrators preferring to hire adjuncts, who don't have to receive health insurance or other costly benefits. Thankfully, HCC seems to recognize and appreciate my contributions, even if the budget won't allow them to permanently take me on full-time as soon as they'd like.

Between the heavy traffic, narrow lanes, and frequent construction, I can't think of many places where highway driving is scarier than it is in Houston. Except possibly Colombia. I remember watching the traffic while a friend was driving me around Bogota...I don't think I have the mental fortitude to survive it if I'm in the driver's seat.
