what makes us want to raise our hand and share our insights with others?
am i trying to impress the teacher or the class
or am i just stroking my own intellectual dick
the cost of entertainment; do we really want to know?
families who think its up to the state and school to inform the next generation

i've gotten over sharing my thoughts in class.

Honestly? Probably not even til the next class. I wouldn't call it intellectual masturbation exactly, but commenting in class is definitely mostly for your own benefit. People do it to hear themselves talk. I did find that when I participated, there were two positive side effects that occurred fairly frequently ( ... )

My opinion: Fuck what you think about what other people think about you in class. You get out of school what you put into it. It´s not about proving yourself to anybody else. It´s about learning what interests you. Your input creates conversation and that conversation is shared by the whole class. Being silent is not active participation. Maybe I say this because I am a kinesthetic learner, but active participation is one of the most central aspects to learning.
