Cloud Strife carries the 'cells' of this being, Jenova. As such he is capable of being influenced by or at worst controlled by her. While he has a firm resistance against her, he once said that in the event someone makes plans against Jenova he not be privy to it least his mind unintentionally tip her off. I felt this is one such time.
