dorm room confort?

My mom is bothering me to ask about what sort of hints you all can give me about living more or less confortably in a dorm ( she keeps talking about carpet, and there's a big bicycle thing she seems to find an issue...). Just really things you guys wish you had known at the beginning.

Thanks a lot.

Yeah, once you get your roommate's info I would talk about getting a rug between the two of you. Otherwise it's the tile floor which isn't very homey. For the first few weeks you'll want to have a fan, it gets pretty hot. Otherwise I don't remember running into any "surprises", pretty much what I expected dorm life would be.

One of the things I always suggest is one of those "egg crate" foam pads for your bed. They make the beds seem a lot softer. I got one freshman year and now I can't sleep without one!

-shower caddies/baskets help a bunch
-make sure you have a long enough ethernet cord and cable cord cuz you may have your computer or tv all the way across the room from where the actual cable/internet hook up is
-bunking your beds saves a lot of room, my roommate and i bunked our beds my sophomore year and had enough room for a futon. it was very homey.
-stacking your bureaus helps save room as well
-bring loooots of warm clothes for the winter. i mean hoodies, flannel pants, flannel sheets, and slippers. the dorms dont turn on their heat until like 3 weeks after the temps drop.... and even then, its freezing.

hope some of that helps. make sure to keep your door open the first few days. everyone's looking to make friends and your dorm floor is where you will probably meet most of them. living in the dorm sucks sometimes, but it will probably be some of your best memories in college, so live it up!
