Heyo Everybuddy! What's the haps? It's been over a month since I last wrote here. I've missed y'all and hope to catch up with yous soon.
There's been a lot going on in my poky little life lately. When I last wrote, my dear Honey had gone on to greener pastures. 2 weeks later my cat Bobi Fett was throwing up blood again and had a bunch of te$ts done. Turns out he has gastric lymphoma. The vet said he has about a month. I'm giving him prednisone and he seems pretty much normal. Perhaps he will defy the odds and feel well enough to hang out a bit longer.
FUCK CANCER!
I feel really bad for Oyster (on the left). Poor little guy has lost so many pet friends since he's come to live with me. First his brother Neptune at around 6 months old, then it was Sam, the cutest dog ever, then Molly, then Tina Sparkle, then Bruiser, then Mrs. Beasley, then Honey and sadly now Bobi. I think he can tell. He's been nicer to Bobi and honestly looks a little depressed. It's tough for all of us.
In Maricopa news, 8 or so days ago McG talked me into buying one of those metal storage sheds. We have spent so far 6 days making a floor and putting the shed together. I am not in any way helpful and have annoyed McG a lot. Oops.
On Tuesday morning I was driving out there on the fairly rural road near the property and I saw a distressed-looking pit bull running around. It was earlyish in the morning but already 101 F (38ish C, I think.) I stopped and opened a door and she jumped right in. I checked her collar for tags but there weren't any. I drove around a bit to see if I could find anyone looking, but there was no one around. I had McG put Abby in the house and brought the dog there. She wouldn't get out of my car, so I parked in the shadiest place I could find and we went on with our work.
On a break, McG and I made a bunch of signs and posted them all over near that intersection. No one called us.
I called a ton of rescue places (who never called back) and finally called the Pinal County government. The woman I spoke with said that I had found the dog on Tribal land - and guess what? It is against the law to pick up any stray animals on Tribal land. She said that dogs can handle the heat and the best thing for us to do would be to take her back where I found her and let her loose. She would be fine and she would find her way home. (ME: In 112 F (44C+/-) weather? She's not a reptile!)
That evening I took Abby back to Mesa with me and McG kept the pitty. She is so well-behaved, so sweet, has nice trimmed nails, is a bit chubby; someone obviously loves her. But how do we find them? McG tried to get her out of her truck several times but the doggo wouldn't budge, and it was still so hot out that McG didn't have the heart to leave her out there.
McG is friends with our neighbor, Deb, who knows a woman who rescues dogs! Just up the mountain from us!
She doesn't rescue anymore but she did have a chip reader and told McG that "Wiggles" is 6 years old and from Ohio. She said that she would try to find a foster or an adopter but she couldn't do it until Monday.
Next day I went back to MC and saw that all the signs we posted were gone. McG and I decided that neither of us are up for a new dog, wonderful as Wiggles is. And it would be a lot of effort to build this shed and plant the trees and fix all the things that need fixing AND keep the two dogs separated (as Abby 100% will attack other dogs). And if we kept her till Monday, legally she would be our dog (?) and it would also be harder to give her up. We both have too much going on and it all has to happen NOW NOW NOW. And with tomorrow being the 4th, nothing would be open even if we could find someplace to bring her.
I kept calling around and saw that the Pinal County Animal Care Center is a no-kill shelter, so McG and I took Wiggsy over to Casa Grande and impounded her. They have a 93% rehoming rate, so I felt pretty okay with that. It was still sad though. I wish my life was such that I could have just kept her. I love having a dog.
So anyway, the shed. The only bit left is putting the doors on. It cheapo side, haha. You just look at the metal panels wrong and voila! there's a dent. We will finish it up tomorrow and then I will have a place to put some of my junk that is blocking me from getting to the rest of my junk! I have too much junk. I STILL CANNOT FIND MY ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH.
I brought a bunch of my junk to the Mesa house and have been really happy hanging up artwork I love and using my own towels and stuff. I feel less like a guest who has overstayed their welcome. McG has been moving all her stuff out to MC. She really really loves it out there and I'm really happy for her. She retired and now she just does all kinds of things like watering all the bouganvilla and citrus trees we have planted. There are many more fab trees to come but we are going to wait till September cus IT'S HOT.
We took the day off to celebrate the 4th with some hotdogs and Bro6 showed up from Mexico. He has renters for a while so he came up here for a few days/a week or so before he heads up to his other house in Wisconsin. McG and he have been talking about finally installing my minisplit. I will be in heaven if they do!
He also said that he has made up his mind and is going to sell the Mesa house. Just as I was kinda getting it to feel more homey with some of my junk around and hanging out in the pool and watching sunsets.
I can't blame him - he uses it so rarely that it would be far cheaper to stay at a motel if he needed to be in Mesa for some reason. So that left me feeling a bit discombobulated and homeless again. I have my trailer but it isn't liveable. So I'll have to get that all sorted out and into a liveable home. It's exhausting just thinking about it all.
The bright side is that he is not into overexerting himself in the blazing heat so he said he would do it in September or October. Whew. Maybe I can figure out my life by then. LOL
oh, one last thing, lol - I finally got my license plate. AZ has an enormous amount of choices, so naturally I picked this:
