book reviews #1 - #3

Over the past week I've read three different books (which quite a feat for me because I think I might've managed three different books throughout all of last year - although they were all YA books, so none of them were terribly long or heavy-going) and... where was I going with this sentence. Full stops, Vix, they are your friend. RIGHT, three ( Read more... )

Intriguing! I haven't read 'Long Lankin' but your review caught my eye immediately because I love the Steeleye Span song of the same name. The song alone was creepy enough; I imagine a book would scare me half to death ( ... )

Ooh I've not heard the song, I'll look it up! I've never read any Virginia Andrews either, but if you'd like to try Forbidden I can post you my copy?

Yeah, the last one... The blurb was the best bit, to be honest. It all went a bit downhill from there.

Weredragon?! Now that's something I've not heard of before - definitely adding these to the list!

We had Richelle Mead in for a signing a year or so back, and while I have no particular affection towards her, I heard some good things about her books! I do tend to lean away from all that kind of stuff since it's SO popular right now, and that automatically makes me wary (probably stupid, I know, but I can't help it), but if it comes on your recommendation I will certainly give it a chance :)

Ooh, I've actually got Sarah Rees Brennan's first book XD I only bought it because I knew she came from Harry Potter fanfiction, but I've not gotten around to reading it yet XD I'm hoping if I can keep up this trend of so many books per week, I'll get through my huge pile relatively quickly...

Virginia Andrews had some interesting books, but then she died and I think her family got a ghostwriter in, and everything was the same after that. 'Flowers in the Attic' and the other books in that series are the most interesting, and a standalone book, 'My Sweet Audrina'. They're...haunting, that's the best way I can describe them.

But yes, if you're prepared to entrust your book to the postal service, I will happily borrow it from you, thank you! I'm a pretty fast reader, so you'd get it back in short order.

I read two of Richelle Mead's series - that one, and a hilarious one about a succubus and her friends - and while she's never going to publish anything earth-shattering, I like her style and I find she's great for a light, not too strenuous read. That's not to say there's no angst, because it's there a-plenty, but it's bearable.

The Sarah Rees Brennan ones, I found I actually enjoyed the second more than the first, and am now eagerly looking forward to the third. Good luck with your reading pile! :-)

'Haunting' is... the kind of description that draws me to something, especially a book. I will definitely remember to have a look for that next time I'm out shopping!

Sure! Could you email me your address? I'm not sure if I still have it...

So intrigued by the second book ydek XD Might just try it myself when I get some free time... I have no good recommendations because I am literally a sappy teenager who reads anything romance related XD

I love Robin McKinley? X3 My favorite is Sunshine, which is not YA, but enjoyable. Most of the rest of her stuff is YA though!

I'm very intrigued by the second book! I've never read a novel with that subject before but the way you described it made me want to read it. :D

YA books I'm into lately are the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins and Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, have you read those?

I really enjoyed it. Well, 'enjoy' is probably the wrong word, but I'm really glad I read it :)

Ooh I have the first Hunger Games book AND Percy Jackson, but I've not read either of them yet XDDD
