Have you seen the recent polls? Most Americans STILL favor off shore drilling. I really don't get it. But then Bill Maher has said several times, Americans aren't collectively very bright.

This. Whenever I see any quote attributing something stupid to the "average american" I think to myself about the people on the left hand side of the curve that must believe something REALLY dumb.
This explains people thinking that Jesus rode dinosaurs but offshore drilling for an infintessimal amount of oil (given our consumption) will somehow do something to lower the cost of a gallon of gas. (When they could have bought a frikken hybrid instead of an SUV, dammit, and had an actual direct impact upon their own out of pocket costs!)

In cases like these, I take comfort in exaggeration and alarm.
