Nia: I like it

I just got back from my first Nia class. Nia is a style of cardio workout based on dance movement. I'm just happy I found a way to get some cardio work that doesn't involve putting on shoes. I can't actually remember the last time I participated in a fitness activity that required shoes; it was certainly well before I moved here four years ago ( Read more... )

Yeah, I was intrigued by that article. Mostly it strengthened my existing sense that the weird ass-backward way I've moved into weight loss and exercise makes me completely orthogonal to most of the stuff that's written about it. Which I'm OK with, on balance.

Glad your knees are better.

I feel like Pilates and yoga teachers are both subject to the little-curl rule: when they are good, they are very, very good, but when they are bad, they are horrid.

It has also been my experience that "very good" for me won't necessarily be good for anyone else, because it has mostly to do with speaking about bodies in a way that happens to be clear to me. In better news, having started with one good teacher in both, I now feel like I can translate other-teacher-ese much better :)
